As we are small businesses, interns are given a lot of responsibility and gain very hands-on experience of the industry. A funky fashion jewellery business selling mainly online to the youth fashion market.  75% of our products we design and make ourselves in our fab Brick Lane studio. We are passionate about our brand, and delivering the best possible product and service to our customers, so we will be looking for candidates with the passion, creativity and positive attitude to uphold these values.

 

Hannah J Image Consultancy

A dynamic image consultancy with a mission to empower women the world over by equipping them with the skills they need to to look fabulous everyday. Working with individual clients and local community youth projects, Hannah J will be looking for dedicated candidates with vision to carry the brand forward.

 

As yet "unnamed" funky events business

A joint venture between the founders of Miss Funkystuff and Hannah J, this new venture will launch and run a whole plethora of creative fashion events in our Brick Lane premises. We will be looking for candidates excited to be part of this process.

Job Descriptions

 

Buying

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience of the buying process within a small fashion business.  The role is very hands-on, so the successful candidate will have strong analytic and numeric skills, have an understanding of current fashion trends and an instinct for what sells, be able to work on own initiative but also be able to communicate confidently in a team, organised, able to work to deadlines. The role will include:-

·      Analysing suitability and commercial viability of current fashion trends for the customer base

·      Determining products to be stocked in the current buying cycle

·      Familiarising self with suppliers to allow quick sourcing of suitable products.

·      Costing products for sale.

·      Dealing with administration associated with the buying process.

 

Web Design/Graphics

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience producing graphics for a commercial purpose.

The successful candidate will be a competent user of CS3/4 packages.

The role will include:

·      Visual layout of sites notably manipulating CSS within bigcartel stores

·      Producing promotional material for events.

·      Producing content for web editorial and mailing list.

 

Social Networking

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience promoting retail and fashion businesses across the major social networking platforms, while gaining an understanding of the relationship between customer communication, promotion and business performance.

 The role will include:

·      Working with social networking co-ordinator to devise content

·      Researching relevant news and 'gossip' stories

·      Analysing content of competitors SN outlets.

·      Implementing the businesses' sn outputs across all major SN platforms.

 

Marketing and Research

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience producing and implementing a marketing plan for the business. The role will be very hands-on, so the successful candidate will be ideas driven, organised, able to work to deadlines, and confident presenting their ideas to a team.

 The role will include:

·      Conducting market research

·      Contributing ideas to produce a marketing strategy

·      Implementing some of those ideas and measuring their success.

 

E-bay Co-ordinator

The suitable candidate will take responsibility for the Miss Funkystuff brand on e-bay and can expect to gain experience of running a mini-retail outlet, learning how to tailor business to a specific market place.  The successful candidate will be extremely motivated, able to work to tight deadlines, understand the importance of accuracy in their work, be comfortable communicating information to others, be polite and have a natural disposition to good customer service.  The role will have both buying and merchandising aspects to it so may suit a candidate interested in these fields as well as other business or retail roles.

The role will include:

·      Competitor research and analysis

·      Updating and maintaining store layout for best possible customer interaction.

·      Selecting product range suitable for eBay market

·      Customer relations

·      Product listings

·      Product dispatch

·      Sales analysis relating to eBay market

·      Liaising with team members in other areas

Your ultimate aim will be to bring outlet inline with the rest of brand and increase sales as a result.

 

Website Co-ordinator

The suitable candidate will take responsibility for shaping and growing the online presence of Miss Funkystuff outside of e-bay and can expect to gain experience in the all-round running of an e-commerce business.   The successful candidate will be extremely motivated, able to work to tight deadlines, be comfortable communicating information to others, be polite and have a natural disposition to good customer service, be interested and have ideas for promotion of the site, have a good understanding of current fashion trends, and how they relate to the target market.  The role will have both buying and merchandising aspects to it so may suit a candidate interested in these fields as well as other business or retail roles.

 The role will include:

·      Competitor research and analysis

·      Co-ordinate editorial content

·      Liaise with other team members over marketing and promotion of site

·      Liaise with buyers and merchandisers for product range

·      Customer relations

·      Product listings

·      Product dispatch

Your ultimate aim will be to make the website as fun and exciting as the Miss Funkystuff brand increase sales as a result.

 

Editorial Content

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience researching and producing editorial content for online outlets suitable for the target market, linking to product sales etc. The successful candidate will have good written skills, have heaps of ideas for how to make the site more interesting than the average webstore, be able to work to deadlines,

The role of editorial will be to produce editorial content for websites, social networking, mailing lists etc. The role will include:

·      Producing editorial content for websites, social networking, mailing lists etc

·      Laying out for online publication.

·      Researching editorial content of competitors.

·      Willing to brainstorm ideas within a group and then develop on an individual basis

 

Online Marketing

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience of how to market a small business online. The successful candidate will be analytically minded, have an interest in this field.

The role will include:

·      Researching the best key words with which to market products.

·      Researching new ways of promoting online.

·      Assessing the success of current techniques.

 

Trend Research

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience researching current fashion trends and interpreting how they translate to the jewellery market, and in particular, the target customer base. The successful candidate will be passionate about keeping up with current trends, will most likely already be an avid reader of fashion magazines and follower of current trends. You will present weekly research to a group so you should be confident in such situations, as well as discussing your findings and opinions with other team members.

The role will include:

·      Researching current high street, magazine and pop culture trends.

·      Presenting your research to the group, and engaging in discussion to reach a consensus relevant to the business.

 

 

Merchandising

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience of merchandising a small fashion business. As the role is very hands-on, you will need to be very analytically minded and have strong numeric skills. Experience using excel is also advantageous. You should also have an understanding of current fashion trends etc.

The role will include:

·      Establishing a suitable record of sales to allow analysis.

·      Conducting analysis of sales across all areas of the business.

·      Producing reports for performance of products/business areas etc.

 

 

 

General

The suitable candidate can expect to gain heaps of experience in all areas of the 3 businesses. You will have a can-do attitude, lots of enthusiasm and be punctual and reliable. The general slots run for 4 week cycles - there may be the option to extend this, or successful candidates may wish to apply for a more specific role after this time.

The role will include:

·      Order dispatch

·      Contributing to group meetings

·      Helping out with the tasks for the day

·      Helping interns in other roles

 

 

 

Wholesale Range

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience putting a wholesale fashion range together, taking into account sales margins, lead times, producing effective sales materials, approaching customers and delivering orders.

The role will include:

·      Researching what the wholesale customer requires from a range.

·                                  Liaising with buying team to establish which items can be viably sold at wholesale price.

·      Researching possible stockists/customers.

·      Producing sales materials for the range.

·      Approaching customers and taking and delivery orders.

 

Own Enterprise

The suitable candidate will gain invaluable experience of running their own fashion jewellery business (a sub-brand of Miss Funkystuff), being involved and taking responsibility for each stage in the process from range selection, to sales to business strategy. If the internship is successful, there is the strong possibility of future employment arising from this role. The successful candidate will be highly self-motivate, extremely well-organised and able to work to deadlines, have great interpersonal skills as a large part of the role will involve approaching new customers, have good business instincts and be unafraid by a challenge.

The role will include:

·                                  Putting together the new season's product range and costing them for wholesale and retail.

·      Producing sales material for the wholesale range.

·      Researching potential customers, and approaching them.

·                                  Taking orders, placing orders for materials, co-ordinating the manufacture and delivery of stock

·      Helping to plan the future activities of the business.

 

 

 

PR

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience running the PR of a small fashion business. You will have an interest pursuing a career in PR, and ideally have some work experience prior to applying for this position. You will have great interpersonal skills, be passionate about delivering results, and have an instinct for how the PR industry operates.

The role will include:

·      Researching and establishing database of possible contacts.

·      Putting press releases and press packs together.

·      Cultivating relationships with the appropriate contacts on behalf of the    business(s).

 

Street Team

The suitable candidates can expect to gain experience of hands-on promotion and events organising, as well as street fashion research amongst others. You will be very pro-active, have a bubbly personality, be unafraid to approach people and work well within a team.

The role will include:

·      Taking street sots of Miss Funkystuff's street style fashion icons

·      Promoting events and services…

 

 

Diva-licious Co-ordinator

Diva-licious is an image empowerment project designed for young women that utilises the principles of image consulting to empower and develop participants in order to build their confidence and self-esteem.  The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience of developing a business with a social enterprise element, as well as learning how to target a product to specific markets.  The successful candidate will need to well organised, proactive, approachable, good at relating to young people and able to think on their feet.

The role will include:

·      Developing contacts with potential clients

·      Assisting in structuring the program to make it more effective

·      Contribute to business planning

·      Lead some of the workshops when confident

·      Possible employment in future.

 

Stylist Assistant

The suitable candidate can expect to gain experience of working within the fashion industry, particularly in terms of co-ordinating fashion shows. The successful candidate will need to have an eye for what looks good as well as the ability to improvise and be creative.  They will need to be available for on call positions for up and coming fashion events, particularly Fashion Fusion (11-12th March 2010 at the Truman Brewery).  You will be answerable to the Head Stylist and you will be involved with:

·      Assisting with the fitting of the garments on the models

·      Accessorising the outfits for the catwalk

·      Arranging the running order of the models

·      Dressing the models during the shows.

You must be pro-active and follow instruction under pressure, as we will be working to a tight schedule.  Experience is advantageous but not essential, you will need to be available for week commencing 8th March 2010.

 

Business Strategist

The suitable candidate would ideally be third year undergraduate or masters business student who is looking to utilise their knowledge and experience and apply it in the real-world environment. You will learn how a fashion business runs and will be involved with developing potential income streams. The role will include:

·      Structuring the business and defining the branding

·      Identifying the most profitable areas to focus on

·      Recommending the best course of action to implement ideas/concepts

·      Researching where the business could develop in the future.

You must be able to relate ideas concisely and pinpoint strategy while having a firm grasp of the brand and its concept.
